Ramdol Role
Ramdol acted as Construction Consultant on behalf of Knight Dragon overseeing the glazed extension works at 6 Mitre Passage. Our role focused on coordinating the complex retrofit of an existing commercial building into a modern supermarket format, managing compliance with retail planning requirements, and ensuring seamless integration with the existing Peninsula Square retail environment while maintaining access to surrounding commercial tenants during construction.
Description
The project was a conversion and extension of the ground floor at 6 Mitre Passage to create a new Sainsbury’s Local supermarket.
The project involved constructing a glazed single-storey extension and amalgamating existing units to deliver a larger, modern retail format. We oversaw the consultant team and contractor throughout design, approvals, and delivery, ensuring the extension was fully integrated with the existing structure and building infrastructure, including attenuation and rainwater-harvesting systems. Our role also covered managing planning permissions and Section 96A amendments, coordinating technical details, and monitoring programme and cost to secure a smooth handover.
Located adjacent to The O2 and the Emirates cable car, the store addresses a clear local need for additional retail provision. The nearby Tesco Express has long been at capacity, and with Knight Dragon’s Greenwich Peninsula masterplan expanding to more than 17,000 new homes, the demand for supermarkets and local amenities has grown rapidly.
Construction began in 2024, with the completed store now trading successfully, providing much-needed convenience retail for the area’s growing residential community and visitors alike.
